Show Notes

In this episode Matthew Moore talks with Screencast-O-Matic's Christine Umayam at FlipTech 2018.

I met Christine as FlipTech East Coast this past June where she was representing conference sponsor Screencast-O-Matic. While Screencast-O-Matic is a great tool for flipped learning and has many other uses in education, I was more struck Christine’s story and that is what we spend the bulk of the episode exploring.  I found an amazing story of vocation and avocation melding with a purpose centered in heart and compassion.  Listen to Christine’s journey thus far and the mission that is at the front of her mind.

The conference was held on June 29 and 30 at Collingswood High School in New Jersey (come learn about the two FlipTech conferences we are running in 2019 here!) Please contact us if you would like to participate in bringing a FlipTech conference to your city or country.

Matt’s Take

The big takeaway for me was actually a reminder from my own experiences in the Philippines about the voracious desire by so many around the world for access and education.  While many in the United States use access to technology as an excuse for apathy, so many around the world innovate and overcome because education is seen as the way to change their lives. As Educators we must always be cognizant of access issues, but we must also be on the frontlines of sharing our knowledge and educational capital not just with our local students but digitally with the world as a whole.

Your Turn
